Housing Minister Dr Jitendra Awhad said. “Saw God In Sunil Gavaskar, he should start cricket academy in allotted BKC plot soon”.
Further said, “Had it not been #sunilgavaskar as the housing minister, I would have cancelled the allotment I am one who used to see god in #SunilGavaskar Now at least he should make the best out of the plot. Can’t forget the day he was clean bowled by #PhilipsDefraitis and I left the stadium crying. Thereafter lost interest in Cricket after his dismissal.”
As the Minister of Housing, I had decided to cancel this plot. Only I changed for Sunil Gavaskar. Sunil Gavaskar should start a cricket academy here soon.
Sunil Gavaskar’s Foundation was earlier allotted the plot measuring 2,000 square metres way back in 1986.
The Maharashtra state government has given permission to Sunil Gavaskar Foundation to convert the reserved plot for an indoor academy complex into a full-fledged multi-facility sports complex.
Through a Government Regulation (GR), the government gave its go-ahead to the Sunil Gavaskar Foundation and now the reserved plot in the Bandra-Kurla complex can be turned into a multi-facility sports complex.
Back in 1986, the MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority) had given the land on a lease to the Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Foundation Trust. However, not much progress has taken place on the project.
