Albeit not having appeared in many films in the last couple of decades, yet, she is still hailed as one of the best actors that Indian cinema has ever seen.

Sharmila started working at a very young age and continued to work after she got married to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1968.
She added, she also did films because she liked the script and at that point of time around, it was necessary. And at this point of time, Kusum in Gulmohar was necessary.
In the Disney Plus Hotstar film, Sharmila Tagore is playing a matriarch who decides to sell off her property in a posh colony in Delhi leaving her grown-up children shocked. Recently, Tagore shared at a screening that the film made her cry “profusely”.
She has been honoured with “National Film Awards” and “Filmfare Awards” for her outstanding performances. She led the “Indian Film Censor Board” from October 2004 till March 2011. In December 2005 she was chosen as an “UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador”.
In 2013, she was honoured with the most prestigious award, “Padma Bhushan” by the Government of India.
The actor’s first Bollywood film was Shakti Samanta’s “Kashmir Ki Kali” alongside Shammi Kapoor. The film portrayed her angelic beauty in a mesmeric way and she emerged a star overnight. She also worked with ace filmmakers Yash Chopra in “Waqt”, Hrishikesh Mukherjee in “Anupama” and Mohan Segal in “Devar”.
She was the first Indian actor to appear in a two piece bikini in An Evening in Paris” opposite Shammi Kapoor and her bold act of donning a two piece bikini became a trendsetter and made her the hottest Bollywood actor.
She was paired with superstar Rajesh Khanna in a number of films and they sparked an incredible chemistry on screen. They appeared together in successful films like “Aradhana”, “Amar Prem”, “Daag”, “Maalik” and “Safar”.
She has also featured in character role during 90s in films like Mira Nair’s “Mississippi Masala”.
