TMC MLA Mitali Roy embraces BJP ahead of Bypoll
In a new development ahead of By-Poll and in a major setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), former TMC MLA Mitali Roy on Sunday 3 September, embraced Bharatiya Janata Party.
Notedý, Mithali Roy had.won the Dhupguri Assembly constituency in Jalpaiguri in North Bengal in 2016 but lost to BJP’s Bishnupada Roy in 2021 election. Due to the abrupt and sad passing away of the BJP MLA in July this year the bypoll was deemed necessary.
After joining the saffron camp, Roy stated that she was under pressure by the TMC.
Adding that she never wanted to campaign for the bypoll. She was subject to tremendous pressure for campaigning. Thereafter she determined to join BJP. Moreover, BJP is in power at the center and it will be helpful for her to develop the place.
Incidentally, on Saturday, Mithali was present at TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s rally at Dhupguri and in less than 24 hours after attending Banerjee’s rally, the former TMC MLA joined BJP.
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar who was present during Mitali’s joining claimed that with Mithali joining BJP, the saffron camp will ‘strengthen’ in that area.
As per Senior CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said, the defection from TMC to BJP and otherwise is common.
Notedly, the bypoll in Dhupguri Assembly constituency is scheduled on September 5 and the counting is on September 8.
