BCCI calls off World Cup 2023 Opening Ceremony
BCCI’s abrupt calling off the opening ceremony of World Cup 2023 has come as a big disappointment to cricket lovers at large.
As per earlier reports, plans were afoot by BCCI for a grand opening ceremony to be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 4, a day before the kick-off of the tournament. As the opening match of the tournament, on October 5, will kick-start at 2 PM, the BCCI had wanted to conduct the opening ceremony, which included a laser show and performances from some of Bollywood’s biggest singers and actors, on October 4.
Reportedly, BCCI had roped in a number of popular Bollywood personalities comprising Ranveer Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Arijit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shankar Mahadevan and the legend Asha Bhosle to perform.
Now, according to RevSportz there will be no World Cup 2023 opening ceremony.
Well, it isn’t clear what has prompted BCCI to call off the the opening ceremony on October 4 – the opening ceremony was to follow the captain’s press conference.
As of now, only the captain’s press conference will take place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, 4 October.
However, InsideSport reveals that instead of an opening ceremony, the BCCI will have a closing ceremony on November 19 and/or a grand ceremony ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash on October 14.
The press conference of all 10 captains will take place on October 4. All the warm-up matches will wrap up by October 3. Although, the grand opening ceremony will not be happening, a laser show in the evening is expected.
Notedly, the opening ceremony of the World Cup 2023 will witness the attendance by ICC’s top officials and of the BCCI.
It is learnt that BCCI and the ICC will invite top administrators of all cricket boards to the event.
