Amidst an interview,Vivek articulated that he forayed into business, before emerging as an actor. He added that at the age of 15 he ventured into a small business because he had come from a boarding school and his father Suresh Oberoi gave him Rs 500 pocket money. He came from a boys’ boarding school, saw beautiful girls in Mithibai college, wanted to take them out on dates and was given Rs 500 a month, but he used it all up in one date. His father scolded him, and asked him to use money judiciously, be more responsible. He turned 15, his ego was hurt, and told his mother that he didn’t need his father’s money, he will handle it himself and stuck to it and didn’t take money from his father, but needed money to attend college, pay for tea and rickshaw travels. That’s when he accidentally started working, did a small voice gig, compered shows and started earning a bit from there.

He then spoke about earning and saving enough money to go to the US for his further studies before he turned to acting. He said, “Once he started earning more he went into investing in stock market, trained with brokers for that and started his stock market portfolio. This was when he was 16- 17 years old. Then he did some commodity trading. At the age of 19 he first set up his business in Whitefield, Bangalore(now Bengaluru).Sold his stake at 21 and went to New York for further studies.

Vivek continued to invest in businesses even when he was at the top of his acting career. He further shared that he returned and became an actor, Company and Saathiya happened. Life was good, but he always wanted to start as an investor. However he ended up becoming an active businessman and it helped him.

The actor had earlier, in an interview had opened up on how he faced a timek in his career when he had no work despite delivering hits and powerful performances.

Vivek Oberoi further recalled powerful Bollywood people sabotaged his career and he sat at home after delivering hits, no one came to him with films.
When he started struggling in Bollywood, when he started facing difficulties even after being a successful actor..he was facing challenges even after proving his skills, there was a different kind of pressure when he wasn’t getting offers. That was his source of income he was running his house, charitable foundation with the money he earned through his business and acting in movies, doing events and making appearances, he paid his staff with it too.

Vivek shared that while his acting career was hanging on a thread it was his sound business sense that kept him afloat and made him financially secured and has invested in 29 companies up till now.

He was running a school in Vrindavan, helping cancer patients. And when his income from movies started drying up, and he wasn’t getting roles, he knew he wouldn’t be able to continue all these things further. Philanthropy is a part of his life, and he needed to be financially secured. He neither asked for money from anyone nor his father. So the question of asking from others does not arise.

That’s when he forayed into active business in real estate, founded some companies, some technology companies grew very big. As of today he has invested in around 29 companies.
