IMD predicts likelyhood of rain till 13 July Monday heavy downpour placed Mumbai on lockdown situation
After the intense heavy downpour on Monday which experienced its highest one-day rainfall since 2019, now the weather bureau predicts likelihood of rain till July 13.
Notedly, the Monday rainfall was 300 millimetres in just a few hours
Mumbai will very likely experience moderate rain showers on Wednesday followed by heavy rainfall till July 13, prompting a ‘yellow’ alert for the city by the weather body.
Mumbai on Monday looked like as if a lockdown was induced.
Some pockets amidst the heavy downpour recorded up to 300 millimeters in a mere few hours. The incessant and intense downpour impacted normal life in the city and grounded the city’s lifeline and public transport. People had to navigate flooded roads and railway tracks. The
railway stations had almost transformed into an aquarium.
The educational institutions were shut owing to waterlogging on roads, lanes and bye-lanes.
Social media platforms too were flooded with videos and photos of the chaos, sparking widespread outrage as many people questioned the authorities’ preparedness to deal with the annual phenomenon.
