Indra Kumar directorial “Beta” has clocked 32 years.Yet, the basic concept is still relevant and has inspired many TV serials on it as well.
Beta was the remake of Tamil hit Enga Chinna Rasa released in 1987 featuring K. Bhagyaraj, Radha, and C. R. Saraswathi. The story was inspired by the Kannada novel Ardhaangi by
B. Puttaswamayya.
The Indra Kumar directorial had the best of the ensemble cast, and with their effortless performance, it went on to emerge as the highest-grossing film of the year.

Anil Kapoor Aruna Irani etc.
At first the film was supposed to be produced by Boney who had approached Sridevi for the female lead, ironically, she rejected the film. Subsequently, Indra Kumar, brother of Aruna Irani, acquired the Tamil rights to remake the film lead roles.
Reportedly, veteran actresses Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore and Mala Sinha were considered for the role of Laxmi, but they all rejected the film for the negative role.
However, when Indra approached his sister, Aruna Irani, with the role, she agreed to do it, and it became a highlight of her career.
Beta was the highest-grossing film of 1992, grossing Rs 23.50 crores domestically. The film also bagged five Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor (Anil), Best Actress (Madhuri), Best Supporting Actor (Aruna), Best Female Playback Singer (Anuradha Padwal), and Best Choreography (Saroj Khan).
Meanwhile, on the film clocking 32 years, Indra Kumar articulated the impact Beta left on makers. He said that even as of now, TV serial producers copy the story of Beta (laughs) and infact all serials are based on ‘Beta’.He feels contended that because of him, the TV serial makers benefited.
