Stree 2 emerges 2024’s biggest Hindi blockbuster-Gives much needed relief to exhibitors
Prior to the release of “Stree 2”,
Single screen theatre owners were in a dilemma and were left with one option that is to shut down temporarily.
But, almighty God had other plans. “Stree 2” horror comedy hit the screen and brought immense cheer to the exhibitors. However, fewer releases and release delays worry the theatre owners.
Notably, Stree 2 has emerged as the biggest Hindi blockbuster of 2024.
Films have a good run due to three reasons which Vidya Balan had reminded Bollywood in her iconic movie “Dirty Picture and it were ‘entertainment, entertainment and entertainment’. Stree 2 has delivered on those reasons to emerge as one of the biggest Hindi grosser of 2024, and theatre owners have heaved a big sigh of relief. Thanks to makers of “Stree 2”. They were a blessing in disguise.
As per Ashutosh Agarwal, director, Starworld Cinemas, the only relief before Stree 2’s release were Kalki and Munjya which helped them break even by the end of June and in July.
The horror-comedy which has kept both audiences as well as exhibitors on the edge of their seats is all set to enter the
Rs 300-crore club with collections to the tune of
Rs 289 crore in its eight-day
run in cinema halls. For its full run, the expectations are that the film could touch Rs 400-500 crore last seen for Hindi movies like Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.
According to Vishek Chauhan, owner of single-screen theatre Roopbani Cinema in Bihar,
Kalki and Deadpool & Wolverine pumped some oxygen into our lungs. With Fighter the exhibition sector made some money, Shaitaan helped them sustain and Munjya helped to pay the bills. Then Kalki was a breather. And now with Stree 2, they have surplus for the year and have cut their losses.
