In a recent interview, he
characterized Amitabh Bachchan as a meticulous “first bencher,” and Rajinikanth a spontaneous “backbencher.”
He went ahead to explain that Bachchan is the epitome of preparation, showcasing Bachchan’s dedication to understanding every detail of his role. He would call him, make him sit down, and go over the next day’s scenes. He would pinpoint specific points, ask questions, and ensure he was fully prepared. On the other hand, Rajinikanth is a master of spontaneity,” if given the scene script on the day of the shoot, he’ would say, ‘Let’s see it amidst the shot.’
Gnanavel also
characterized Senior Bachchan’s dedication to thorough preparation, even requesting help from the director to ensure he understood every nuance of the next day’s scenes. He would leave the set with the scene paper and return the next day knowing every line by heart,” that’s Bachchan’s meticulous approach towards work.
In contrast, Rajinikanth’s approach is characterized by a natural charisma and instinctual understanding of his craft. He would always request to finish Amitabh’s scenes first, and he would wait patiently, this shows
