In the face of it producer Boney Kapoor doesn’t exactly see eye to eye with his daughter Janhvi Kapoor in terms of putting oneself out there at major events to promote themself and their projects.
In the midst of a recent interview, Boney enumerated the many inventive strategies for promoting his films in the past, and he also mentioned about his disregard for actors who attend events like Wimbledon just for photo ops and promotions.
Continuing with his conversation Boney shared his responsibility for a lot of firsts in the world of film promotions and revealed that “his
Mr. India was seemingly the first time that an actor, in this case Anil Kapoor, went down to do the toss at the Sharjah cricket stadium dressed up like his character. He even sat at the commentator box doing commentary with Sunil Gavaskar.
That toss was still a few months before the film’s release. Just before that
8India for a series. Boney arranged for a helicopter and had Anil land in the middle of the ground to do the toss as Mr India. We even had merchandise, such as Mr India erasers and pencils.”
Boney further went on to add that , now actors go and sit at Wimbledon merely for photo ops. Infact 90 percent of those people don’t know what tennis is all about, but because their picture is being clicked at such a prestigious event, they go. We were cricket buffs; that’s why we went to those places and did promotions.” The interesting thing about this piece of critique is that Janhvi attended the last Wimbledon, which was held in July, with her boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya. In 2024, Janhvi also attended cricket matches while she was in the midst of promoting her film
Mr and Mrs Mahi, where she played an aspiring cricketer.
Despite the fact the father and daughter seem to have very different views on the matter, Boney still wants to work with Janhvi and talked about how he already has a project in the pipeline with both his daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor.
When asked about whether he had an edge over other producers because he had actors in the family, he said, “See, the first thing is that he doesn’t think that he ever has an edge over any other producers, because the actors in his home only want to do films that appeal to them. There are several such films which are very close to his heart, out of the present lot of the 6 films he has 2 in Tamil and 4 in Hindi – one film he is doing with Janhvi and the other with Khushi. Earlier he had announced that his film No Entry 2 will feature son Arjun Kapoor. One of Janhvi’s films, Param Sundari, recently released, while she awaits release of her next project, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Khushi, on the other hand, was last seen in Nadaaniyan and Loveyapa, and both films failed to make a mark with the audience and the critics.
