Singing Legend Lata Mangeshkar didn’t want to be reborn as herself because of the immense personal struggles, hardships, and sacrifices she endured throughout her life, which she believed only she truly understood.
In an old interview with Javed Akhtar, she stated, “…if God does give herll another life, let it be in India, in Maharashtra, in a small house. And let her be born as a boy”.
When questioned on why she wouldn’t want to return as herself, she replied, ” Her problems are known only to her.
Following the early death of her father, Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar, she was thrust into the role of the primary breadwinner for her family at a young age. She sacrificed her personal life, including marriage, to support her family.
She worked for decades in a male-dominated, sometimes harsh, environment, navigating immense pressure and responsibility.
She once joked that if she were to be reborn, she would prefer to be reborn as her sister, Asha Bhosle, so she could “educate herself and she believed she will make her music very popular abroad and one more thing, she will remain a spinster.
Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary voice behind over 30,000 songs, passed away at the age of 92 on February 6, 2022.
