R.D. Burman, known as “Pancham,” faced severe health issues, including heart attacks, compounded by excessive alcohol consumption which strained their marriage.
Professionally, the 1980s were difficult.
Occasionly, with fewer projects coming herv way, leading to depression and a feeling of being “almost jobless,” which affected his personal life.
Sources reveal that the couple did not get a legal divorce, but rather chose to live separately though continuing to share a bond of admiration for each other’s music.
Even in the midst of their separation, they continued to work together, most notably on the 1987 album
Dil Padosi Hai and the film Ijazat.
