Prior to achieving iconic status as
Sita in veteran filmmaker Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan”released in 1987 actress Dipika Chikhlia experienced a challenging phase in her career characterized by flop films and, consequently, a move into B-grade horror movies.
She debuted as a lead in the 1983 Rajshree production “Sun Meri Laila”. Notwithstanding.high hopes, the movie was a “disaster” at the box office, and subsequent films like “Paththar” and “Bhagwan Dada” also flopped.
:Due to a lack of better offers and a stalling career, Dipika switched to B-grade horror films, featuring in movies like Cheekh released in 1985 and Raat Ke Andhere Mein released in 1987
“Ramayan” released in 1987 completely transformed her career, leading to immense popularity and her being regarded as a household name.
Post-Ramayan challenges, the Sita image in Ramayan won her recognition and fame and created a “Giddess” image that hindered her career later, as filmmakers found it difficult to cast her in romantic or mainstream roles.
