SS. Rajamouli-directorial film featuring Mahesh Babu, 0titled Varanasi, will feature a significant 20-minute sequence inspired by the Ramayana. Producer S.S. Karthikeya revealed at the Comic Con Experience Mexico 2026 that the film includes an approximately 20-minute segment dedicated to the Ramayana. The film is described as a “globetrotting action adventure” that merges mythology with time-travel elements, where Mahesh Babu’s character, Rudra, travels through different timelines and worlds—spanning from ancient history (like the Ramayana era) to the future of 2027—to retrieve a cosmic artifact.

Director Rajamouli mentioned that this Ramayana sequence was meticulously planned, with 60 days dedicated to filming, describing it as a “combination of multiple sub-episodes”.Cast and Release: The film stars Mahesh Babu as Rudra, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas (as Mandakini) and Prithviraj Sukumaran (as Kumbha). The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 7, 2027.

Karthikeya noted that this segment helps connect the film’s Indian roots with global audiences, bridging Indian mythology with Western/Mexican storytelling styles.The movie is reportedly being made on a massive budget (estimated around ₹1,400 crore) and is considered one of India’s most ambitious projects.

The plot follows the adventures of Rudhra (Babu) as the city of Varanasi faces the impending arrival of an asteroid.
