At the absolute peak of her career, following a massive string of successful films and becoming one of the busiest actresses in the industry, Kimi Katkar decided to step away from Bollywood.
She married renowned commercial photographer and ad filmmaker Shantanu Sheorey in 1992 and chose to leave the industry to focus on her personal life and family.
She stepped completely out of the limelight, choosing a private life off the grid, and relocated to Melbourne, Australia, where she currently resides.
While her acting career was cut short, she is still widely celebrated as the glamorous icon of 1980s Bollywood and is forever remembered as the
“Jumma Chumma Girl”.
Before singing Jumma Chumma, Kimi Katkar had already gained fame with her bold image in the 1985 film Tarzan. She had showcased her talent in several films. However, it was Amitabh Bachchan’s song that brought her nationwide fame. However, at the peak of her career, she decided to leave the industry.
Kimi Katkar decided to settle down in 1992 by marrying photographer Shantanu Shorey. She felt it was important to leave Mumbai and prioritize her love and family. Last year, the actress discussed her sudden departure from films in a podcast.
She couldn’t balance her personal and professional life. She wanted to become a mother at a young age, so she left everything. However, she is happy that she was able to become an actress and work with Amitabh Bachchan.
For many years Kimi lived with her family in Australia. Later, when it came to her son’s education, she moved back to India. However, she never attempted a comeback in the industry.
She is currently settled in Goa with her family and is living a happy life. She is now a grandmother and has a son.
