Amidst recent official functions, including the swearing-in of the new cabinet, ‘Vande Mataram’ was performed before the state’s traditional invocation song, ‘Tamil Thai Vaazhthu’.
The sequence sparked a massive political row in Tamil Nadu, with the ruling party and regional allies condemning the departure from local convention, which dictates that the Tamil invocation song must be played first.
