The much-anticipated teaser for Sunny Deol’s period drama Batwara 1947 (earlier titled Lahore 1947) is officially releasing on June 15, 2026. Produced by Aamir Khan, the film features a high-impact teaser narrated by Aamir Khan himself. The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial hits theaters amidst the 2026 Independence Day weekend on 13 August.
Batwara 1947′ reunites actor Sunny Deol with director Rajkumar Santoshi, the visionary pair that delivered iconic blockbusters such as Ghayal Damini and Ghatak. Speaking about their renewed collaboration in 2023, the filmmaker confidently declared, regardless years of trying to find the right script, have eventually locked a project that he is certain will eclipse the magnitude of their past collaborations.
The film features Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Shabana Azmi, and a special supporting appearance by Aamir Khan.
The release date for the teaser holds a special cinematic significance. June 15 marks the 25-year anniversary of the historic 2001 box office clash between Sunny Deol’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Earlier titled as Lahore 1947, the project was rebranded as
“Batwara 1947” to avoid geopolitical sensitivities and better align with the film’s emotional Partition-era storyline.
Adapted from the famous play
“Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya”, the film marks a monumental reunion between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi.
