SS Rajamouli inducted into France’s ‘Wall of Filmmakers’

Legendary filmmaker SS Rajamouli was inducted into France’s prestigious Institut Lumière’s ‘Wall of Filmmakers’ in Lyon and received a permanent seat at Paris’s Cinémathèque Française.

While in France for the retrospective screenings of his films, the director shared exciting updates on his upcoming magnum opus, Varanasi, affirming that India is a “huge treasure trove of stories”.Institut Lumière and Cinémathèque Française Honours. In the midst of his promotional tour in France, the visionary behind RRR and Baahubali was celebrated by the global film community. He was officially inducted into the ‘Wall of Filmmakers’ at the legendary Institut Lumière in Lyon, the birthplace of cinema. Following this, Cinémathèque Française in Paris showcased a special retrospective of Rajamouli’s films (Eega, RRR, and Baahubali) and honoured him with a permanent seat bearing his name.

The tribute drew attendance from 93-year-old Oscar-winning French filmmaker Costa-Gavras.
At the Annecy Animation Festival, Rajamouli unveiled the first glimpse of his highly-anticipated global adventure film, “Varanasi”.

Amid discussions, he championed Indian cinema, noting that
“India is a huge treasure trove of stories” and that “Varanasi” is deeply rooted in Indian mythology while being designed for a universal audience.

Major spectacular action sequences are finished, with only smaller connecting scenes remaining to shoot.
The crew is set to film one of the largest war sequences in Hyderabad, featuring thousands of junior artistes.
The globe-trotting spectacle stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Prakash Raj.Release Date: The film is slated for a massive global theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
