Mumbai is enduring severe monsoon conditions as the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the city, with adjoining Thane and Palghar placed under red alerts. The relentless downpour dropping over 200 mm of rain in isolated areas—has caused widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and delayed local train services, while tragically claiming two lives. Despite these disruptions, the heavy rains have begun refilling the city’s key reservoirs.
The heavy downpours severely slowed traffic, causing gridlocks across Dadar, Bandra, and Andheri.
Local suburban train services,
Mumbai’s lifeline, have been running behind schedule, leaving thousands of commuters stranded
Civic emergencies peaked with over 120 incidents of tree collapses, wall collapses, and landslides reported, including a tragic incident where an 11-year-old boy lost his life when a tree fell on a school bus in Chembur.
Following a delayed and uncharacteristically dry start to the season, the current deluge is helping Mumbai’s reservoirs, successfully raising water levels in the seven key lakes.
Meanwhile, concerned authorities are urging residents to avoid traveling through flooded areas, monitor local weather carefully, and exercise extreme caution near waterlogged streets
