PM Modi hails India-New Zealand FTA as ‘historic milestone’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to New Zealand on July 10-11, 2026, marks the first trip by an Indian head of state in four decades. Centered in Auckland, the historic tour is designed to capitalise on the newly signed India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and elevate the bilateral partnership.

Amidst his visit signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) he deal eliminates tariffs on 95% of
New Zealand exports to India while granting Indian exports 100% duty-free access. It also involves a massive $20 billion FDI commitment from New Zealand over 15 years.
Discussions prioritize easier student visas, academic collaborations, and professional mobility for high-skilled Indian workers. Broader talks between PM Modi and Kiwi PM Christopher Luxon covered defence, maritime security, agri-tech, and Indo-Pacific cooperation.Voices of the Community.
