Wangchuk has been fasting in New Delhi in solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to protest alleged examination irregularities and to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In the midst of a press address in Mumbai, Thackeray urged the Centre to wake up to the gravity of the situation and called Wangchuk’s life “precious for the country. In support of the movement, Thackeray announced that his party would stage a solidarity protest in Maharashtra to coincide with the CJP’s march to Parliament in New Delhi.

The protesters have maintained that the ball is in the government’s court, insisting that the authorities should begin a dialogue rather than simply asking the activist to end his fast.
