Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to Pakistan is the first by a Canadian top diplomat in nearly 20 years. It marks a major push to reset relations and expand bilateral trade, investment, and security.
The two nations agreed to intensify economic cooperation. ReportedlyAnand finalized an agreement allowing Canada to export canola seeds for food and processing, while heavily encouraging investments in Pakistan’s clean energy and mining sectors.
Anand announced over $47 million in aid, which includes over $2.2 million for new security initiatives focused on border management, counterterrorism, and financial crimes.
She held high-level discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar covering trade diversification and regional stability.
As per Anita Anand her visit to Pakistan, the first by a Canadian foreign minister in nearly 20 years, aims to deepen bilateral ties in trade.
She also announced more than $47 million in development and security assistance for Pakistan, including over $2.2 million.
