Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, widely celebrated for his powerful antagonist performances in Indian cinema, passed away at the age of 74 in Mumbai. He leaves behind a rich legacy highlighted by major industry awards and iconic creative collaborations across Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil cinema.
Jabalpur, MP born Rawat first captured national attention as Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra’s landmark TV series Mahabharat. He seamlessly transitioned to the big screen, forging critical creative partnerships with visionary directors. His collaborations with S.S. Rajamouli in the 2004 Telugu blockbuster Sye and AR Murugadoss in the original Ghajini (as well as its record-breaking 2008 Hindi remake alongside Aamir Khan) cemented his status as one of cinema’s most formidable screen villains. He also shared memorable on-screen partnerships with Ashutosh Gowariker in the Oscar-nominated Lagaan, and John Matthew Matthan in Sarfarosh.
For his outstanding work, Rawat achieved sweeping critical acclaim in 2004, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Villain (Telugu), the Santosham Best Villain Award, and the prestigious Nandi Award.
