Anupam Kher recently shared an emotional memoir across his social media platforms to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Subhash Ghai’s action-packed drama,”Karma”. The 1986 cinematic masterpiece proved to be a pivotal milestone that permanently shifted the trajectory of Anupam’s professional career.
While Kher had already secured widespread critical acclaim for his brilliant performance in the 1984 film”Saaransh” he credits”
Karma as the specific project that launched him into the commercial mainstream of Hindi cinema.
In a heartfelt post that quickly went viral online, the legendary actor expressed deep appreciation for the film’s lasting impact. “Although “Saaransh” had established him as an actor to reckom Subhash Ghai Sahab’s “Karma” made him a commercial star,” the actor
recalled, noting that the film allowed him to embrace the larger-than-life world of mainstream cinema.
Produced by Mukta Arts, “Karma” featured a legendary ensemble cast including Dilip Kumar, Nutan, Sridevi, and Jackie Shroff.
The film went on to become one of the biggest box-office successes of the 1980s, driven by its strong patriotic themes and memorable musical soundtrack.
Kher portrayed the iconic villain Dr. Dang, delivering a menacing performance that remains etched in Indian cinema history.
His character’s intense rivalry with Dilip Kumar’s character became a major highlight of the film, popularizing iconic cinematic moments that continue to resonate with fans today. Anupam emphasized that the greatest gift of the project was the rare privilege of working closely with Dilip Kumar, describing the experience of learning from the screen legend as his “real award.”
Concluding his nostalgic tribute, the veteran actor expressed immense gratitude to showman and visionary director Subhash Ghai for trusting him with the career-defining role. He congratulated the entire cast and crew on achieving the four-decade milestone, signing off with his signature phrase,
