It’s a proud moment for Dharma Productions today, 11 August, as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Karan Johar directorial groundbreaking romantic drama Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK).
The film which premiered on August 11, 2006,challenged traditional themes of marriage and infidelity in Indian cinema and featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, and Kirron Kher.
Set against the backdrop of
New York City, KANK explored the emotional complexities of two unhappily married couples. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the chart-topping soundtrack. Songs like the title track and “Mitwa” remain deeply popular today.At launch, the film divided critics but achieved massive commercial success globally. It emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film overseas upon its release.
Two decades later, audiences still praise its mature narrative, sharp dialogue, and complex characters.
