Shiv Sena leader and spokesperson Shaina NC has publicly backed the recent strict actions taken by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the regulatory body recently issued formal show-cause notices to top Bollywood celebrities Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff over their involvement in controversial surrogate advertisements.
Shaina NC emphasized that any regulatory steps taken to curb the promotion of hazardous substances like gutka and pan masala are vital. She called the FDA crackdown a massive step forward in the interest of public health and safety.
The politician highlighted that mega-celebrities carry immense influence across the country. She stated that film stars have a deep societal duty. They must project healthy habits and correct choices for their millions of young followers.
The controversy centers around television and digital commercials for premium elaichi (cardamom) brands. The state FDA alleges these campaigns act as illegal surrogate marketing for banned tobacco-linked products.
The three major major celebrities now have 15 days to respond to the state notices and take down the digital advertisements.
