Vishwa Vaidya, the 23-year old National Chess Champ, clutching her gold medal moved into tears with her eyes locked onto the stage, completely overwhelmed with emotion amidst sea of thousands cheering inside packed Vadodara auditorium.

Growing up with impossible dreams, she had no sponsors, no private academy backing, and no grand resources until a grassroots sports initiative launched back in 2010 gave small-town kids a real fighting chance to dominate the board. Bowing before PM Modi she said whatever she is today
it’s because of him.
