SC registry flags flaws in India Bloc plea over electoral rolls

The Supreme Court Registry has flagged fourteen procedural defects in a joint writ petition filed by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and ten other INDIA bloc leaders challenging the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
According to the Registry’s objections, the procedural flaws in the petition include a court fee shortfall of 220 rupees, missing or unsigned lawyer authorisations for nine of the petitioners, and an illegible photocopy of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s identity card.

The Registry also raised concerns regarding the naming and inclusion of individual Election Commissioners as respondents under Article 32, along with pointing out missing pages, formatting errors, illegible text sizes, and discrepancies in annexure dates.
Under Supreme Court rules, the petition cannot be listed before a bench for a formal hearing until all fourteen procedural errors are fully rectified by the legal team. Representatives from the Congress legal department have stated that these objections are standard administrative matters that will be corrected promptly to meet all court requirements.

Conversely, ruling-party leaders have criticized the omissions, noting a sharp contrast between prominent public campaigns and basic legal documentation standards.
