Choreographer Shiamak Davar recalls how Shah Rukh Khan coined him to do Dil To Pagal Hai.
Yash Chopra insisted for Shiamak Davar as choreographer for Dil Toh Pagal Hai. But as per Shiamak Davar it was Shah Rukh Khan, who put pressure on him to choreograph the film.
YRF produced and Yash Chopra directorial ‘Dil Toh Pagal’ 1997 film features Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor.
Notably, the film grabbed attention for its songs and unconventional choreography with western influences at the time.
In a fresh interaction with the media choreographer Shiamak Davar recalled how he almost did not do the film, and said it was Shah Rukh, who convinced him to work on the movie.
Shiamak, who has since then worked with everyone from Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2 to Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, spoke about how Shah Rukh ‘forced’ him to do Dil To Pagal Hai.
He added that Yash Chopra had even asked him to work on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge but he had refused as he was ‘scared and worried’ that his style of choreography would never work in films.
On what prompted him to enter films, as per Shiamak Davar affirms Gauri Khan used to visit his classes and Shah Rukh often came to receive her.
He would stand outside smoking a cigarette, waiting for her patiently like an adoring husband. Literally, he likes an adoring husband. One day, SRK told that there is a movie coming out and he wanted him to do it. SRK invited him for dinner and he was surprised as to ‘why is he calling him for dinner?’. But when he reached there, SRK asked him to do Dil To Pagal Hai. He convinced him by telling him that they wanted his style of choreography. Frankly speaking, had Shah Rukh not convinced him Shiamak sure wouldn’t have done Dil To Pagal Hai either. Because his style of dance movement was very much different. It was western but Yash Chopra reposed faith in him and SRK pushed him further. So he was happy that he did the movie which turned out to be a blockbuster.
Earlier he had refused to work in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He knew Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan very well because of their work.
Dil Toh Pagal Hai still continues to be one of the most famous romantic films of Bollywood.
