IMD issues Yellow alert for Mumbai for June 26-27
While rain is much awaited in Mumbai, the IMD on Friday issued a yellow alert for the city as well as adjoining areas like Thane for June 26-27. Heavy rain very likely at isolated places.
Even as rains continue to evade the Financial hub it is neither witnessing any pre-monsoon showers as well. The official onset of monsoon over Mumbai is June 11. The rainfall recorded so far this month by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory has been 23.6 mm and 17.9mm.
On Friday morning some parts of the city was a witness to a drizzle. However the rains fizzled out soon with the rest of the day seeing clear skies and sunny weather conditions.
There is a certain criteria set by IMD before they declare the onset of monsoon over a particular region namely wind direction which needs to be westerly and the district/city should record two days of continuous showers.
Meanwhile as on Friday morning the water stocks in the seven lakes, which supply water to the city, currently stand at approximately 12.73%, including the reserve water stocks provided by the state government.
Meanwhile BMC cautions that if the rains are significantly delayed, a water cut could start by early July.
