Meet Kalanithi Maran Kollywood’s richest film producer; owns Sun Pictures,
While actors and directors bask on the success of a movie at the box-office, at the heels of
scenes it’s the producer who is the bastion of the entire project, from production to completion.
Kollywood’s 59 year old Kalanithi Maran owner of Sun Pictures has emerged as the richest filmmaker to have produced blockbuster films and to have collaborated with South’s Super Star.
Notedly, Forbes reported that in 2022, the 59-year-old entrepreneur’s net worth was over $2-2.3 billion
(approx Rs 19,000 crore).
Kalanithi Maran and his wife Kaveri Kalanithi’s salary is said to be Rs 87.50 crore per year, which has remained the same from 2017-2018 onwards.
This makes them the highest-paying executives in India, even beating Mukesh Ambani, whose salary was reportedly Rs 15 crore per year, until the pandemic, which is when he decided to forego it.
After Kalanithi Maran, Bollywood has Ronnie Screwvala at No. 2, who was earlier the second richest Indian film producer. Ronnie Screwvala’s reported net worth is Rs 12,800 crore. Following at No. 3 and No. 4 are Aditya Chopra with an estimated net worth of around Rs 7,500 crore and Eros’ Arjan and Kishore Lulla, whose reported joint net worth is around Rs 7,400 crore. Karan Johar and Gauri Khan take the next spots at No. 5. and No. 6, respectively. KJo’s estimated net worth is Rs 1,700 crore while Gauri Khan’s reported net worth is Rs 1,600 crore. Aamir Khan is at No. 7 with an estimated net worth of Rs 1,500 crore. Rounding up the list, we have Sajid Nadiadwala, Bhushan Kumar, and Ekta Kapoor, who have a reported net worth of over Rs 1,000 crore.
Talking about Kalanithi Maran, his latest release, Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer starring Rajinikanth is a blockbuster at the box office. As a token of his gratitude for Jailer’s success, Kalanithi Maran not only presented a cheque to Rajinikanth but also gifted the superstar a BMW X7.

Kalanithi Maran’s next as a producer will be D50, starring Dhanush. The gangster drama film, which marks the National Film Award winner’s 50th film, is being directed and written by Dhanush. D50 also stars Nithya Menon, S. J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, and Kalidas Jayaram.
