SS Rajamouli has put up a plush Varanasi set in Hyderabad ever constructed in Indian cinema and is learned that the set is built with
expert help and Nagara
style architecture that blends green screen and VFX. The estimated cost is Rs.40 crores.
Reportedly, the two-part film expectedly releases in 2027-2029.and is claimed to be one of the most expensive and elaborate sets ever constructed in Indian cinema. As per a report the team did discuss the possibilities of shooting in exteriors in the streets of Varanasi. But Rajamouli was keen and more comfortable to shoot in a set because of the logistic challenges.
Rajamouli, acknowledged for his attention to detail and commitment to authenticity, is working closely with historians and temple architecture experts to ensure that the set reflects the real Varanasi. From ghats and temples to intricate riverfronts, every element is being recreated with precision. The design draws heavily from Nagara-style architecture, featuring towering spires and finely detailed carvings.
