Anil Sharma shares on the development of “Apne 2”
Veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma amidst his recent media interaction opened up over the interesting development in his upcoming project
“Apne 2”. He went on to reveal that the scripting is already done despite having too many scripts with him as of now and whether he will be able to make it. But for it may not be his immediate next directorial venture post Vanvaas as the filmmaker has his hands full with Gadar 3, an action film featuring his son Utkarsh Sharma and a love story that he has been wanting to make for a while.
Reportedly, Anil Sharma’s “Apne” marked Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol’s first onscreen collaboration. The film which hit the screen in 2007 saw Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol come together onscreen for the first time. The film opened well at the box office. The sequel to it was as “Apne 2″ was officially announced in November 2020. It was also supposed to feature Sunny’s son Karan Deol and was to mount the sets in March 2021 with a theatrical release that was scheduled for
5 November, 2021. But following an inordinate delay, it seems like there’s finally an update on the film.
Looking back at the time when he took the story of Apne to the Deol trio, all three of them got convinced within a matter of two hours. “It wasn’t difficult to convince them. All three of them wanted to do a film together and they wanted him to make it. When he narrated the story to Dharam ji, he nearly went teary-eyed When Bobby heard the script, he hugged him.
After he came to know that father Dharam ji and brother Bobby are into it, he too agreed ti do the film.
He heard their feedbacks of the script, then heard it and immediately said yes. Anil’s bond with the Deols is great, even off-screen. He said that their bond was such that they can confide in each other.
As a filmmaker, Anil had first collaborated with Dharmendra in his 1987 directorial outing, Hukumat. But the first time that they ever met was on the sets of
BR Chopra and Ravi Chopra’s The Burning Train where Anil was an assistant director. Amidst the making of Burning Train, he first connected with Dharamji and Hema (Malini) ji. But connections don’t work in the film industry. Every time you want to work with an actor, you’ve to narrate the script to them.
Emphasising on how it wasn’t just his personal equation with Dharmendra that led them to work on Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtey and Tahalka over the years, Anil adds, that connection helps you with is access. Whether they end up saying yes to your film or not depends on how good the material is. But God has been kind to him. That coupled with my desire to work in the movies gave him the opportunity to work with actors like Dharam ji.”
