Chaos at Shreya Ghoshal’s concert at Bali Jatra in Odisha
A chaotic scene on Thursday evening unfolded at the annual Bali Jatra in Cuttack when a sea of crowd surged towards the stage amidst remowned singer Shreya Ghoshal’s live performance. The chaos, left at least two people unconscious.
Thousands of visitors had gathered at the venue for the much-anticipated concert on the concluding day of the festival. However, crowd control measures proved inadequate as people pushed against barricades to get closer to the main stage. The sudden pressure triggered panic and confusion, with some individuals collapsing due to suffocation and exhaustion.
Security personnel and police quickly intervened to restore order. The two unconscious people were immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. No major casualties were reported.
Senior police officials reached the spot to monitor the situation and ensure the crowd dispersed safely. As per Police Commissioner
S Devdutt Singh, who was supervising the arrangements,while there was a massive crowd, reports of a stampede were inaccurate.
Adding that a huge crowd had gathered in Cuttack; there were no gaps amid one person and another. Those who were unable to stand in the crowd were taken out with the help of the authorities. No stampede or injuries were reported.
Authorities have since intensified crowd management efforts to prevent any further untoward incidents during the closing hours of the festival.
