Mumbai City Assistant Commissioner of Police Ananya Singh recently pulled up a corrupt and ruthless Copyright for his behavior with a poor taxi driver. Reportedly the senior cop Ananya Singh was returning home in a taxi. The taxi driver had no idea that the woman sitting in the back seat of his car was not an ordinary passenger, but a senior officer of the Mumbai Police.
Ananya was wearing a simple red saree and looked completely like a regular citizen.
These days, Ananya was on leave and was heading home to attend her brother’s wedding. She had decided that at this wedding, she would not go as a police officer, but simply as a sister.
On the way, the taxi driver said,
“Madam, I’m taking this route today, though I usually avoid this road.”
Ananya asked casually,
“Why, brother? What’s the problem with this road?”
The driver replied nervously,
“Madam, there are frequent police checks on this road. An inspector here issues fines without reason and extorts money from taxi drivers. If anyone refuses, he even resorts to physical violence. I don’t know what fate has written for me today. I just pray I don’t run into him, otherwise he’ll take money from me even if I’ve done nothing wrong.”
Ananya began thinking to herself,
“Does this really happen? Is the officer at this station truly so corrupt and ruthless?”
Soon, she saw Inspector Ravi Sharma standing by the roadside with some constables, checking vehicles. As soon as the taxi approached, the inspector signaled for it to stop.
Inspector Ravi angrily shouted,
“Hey, taxi driver! Get out. Do you think you own the road, driving so fast? Don’t you fear the law? Pay a ₹5,000 fine right now.”
Saying this, he pulled out his ticket book.
The driver, whose name was Ramesh, became frightened.
“Sir, I haven’t broken any rule. Why are you fining me? Please don’t do this. I don’t have that much money right now. How can I arrange ₹5,000?”
Hearing this, the inspector grew even angrier.
“You’re arguing with me? If you don’t have money, why are you driving a taxi? Show me your license and vehicle papers. Is this taxi stolen?”
Ramesh quickly showed all the documents. Everything was completely in order. Still, the inspector said,
“The papers may be fine, but you still have to pay the fine. Give me ₹5,000 now, or at least ₹3,000. Otherwise, I’ll seize the vehicle immediately.”
Ananya, standing nearby, observed everything carefully. She clearly saw how the inspector was harassing a hardworking, poor taxi driver without any reason and trying to extort money from him. Despite her anger, she remained calm—she wanted to understand the full truth first.
The driver folded his hands and pleaded,
“Sir, where will I get that much money? I’ve earned only ₹500 so far today. Paying ₹3,000 is beyond me. I have small children. I’m a poor man. I work day and night just to feed my family. Please have mercy on me.”
But Inspector Ravi showed no compassion. He grabbed Ramesh by the collar, pushed him, and shouted,
“If you don’t have money, why are you driving a taxi? Does your father own the road? And you dare argue with me! Come on, I’ll teach you a lesson at the police station.”
Hearing this, Ananya could no longer remain silent. She stepped forward, stood in front of the inspector, and said firmly,
“Inspector, you are completely in the wrong. This driver has not violated any rule, so why are you fining him? You have also physically assaulted him. This is a serious violation of the l8aw and citizens’ rights. You have no authority to harass an ordinary citizen like this. Let him go immediately.”
