NZ Captain Mitchell admits India outplayed his side

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner admitted his side was “outplayed” by a dominant India in the 2026 T20 World Cup final, citing the massiveĀ 96-run lossĀ as a result of being outmatched in both powerplays.

Santner lauded India’s class, acknowledging they were rightful winners in front of a passionate home crowd.Ā 

Santner conceded India was simply too strong, specifically highlighting the batting, where India scored 255/5.
He noted the match was decided early, with New Zealand struggling at 3/40+ compared to India’s 90-odd for none in the first six overs.
Santner admitted the team felt they were underdogs against the tournament favorites.

Regardless the loss, he expressed pride in his team for reaching the final and competing, looking forward to the 2028 tournament, which they will co-host.Ā
