A biographical film based on the legendary actress Madhubala is in development, directed by Jasmeet K. Reen (“Darlings”) and produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Brewing Thoughts Private Limited, and Madhubala Pictures Pvt. Limited. The biopic will chronicle her iconic career, personal struggles, and untimely death at age 36.
The project is a collaboration between Sony Pictures International Productions, Brewing Thoughts P Ltd, and Madhubala’s sister, Madhur Brij Bhushan.

Casting Status: Contrary to numerous rumors about actors like Kiara Advani or Aneet Padda, casting director Mukesh Chhabra stated in March 2026 that the final lead actress has not been locked and the casting process is still in its early stages.
The film aims to showcase the life of the “Venus of Indian Cinema,” including her roles in masterpieces like Mughal-e-Azam, her relationships with actors Dilip Kumar and Kishore Kumar, and her struggle with health issues, says an Instagram post.
While social media has been rife with speculation about the lead actress, the creators have officially noted they are looking for the perfect face to embody.
