The Madras High Court on April 16, 2026, dismissed an appeal by actress Tamannaah Bhatia seeking ₹1 crore in damages from Power Soaps Limited, confirming a lower court’s decision that she failed to provide sufficient evidence of unauthorized image use.
A division bench of Justices
P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi upheld the 2017 ruling that dismissed her original 2011 civil suit, closing the legal dispute over the alleged misuse of her photographs
Tamannaah alleged that Puducherry-based Power Soaps continued to use her images on soap wrappers and promotional materials between November 2010 and February 2011, even though their endorsement agreement expired on October 6, 2009.
The original agreement, signed on October 7, 2008, granted the company rights to use her images for one year.
The single judge, and subsequently the division bench, found that the evidenceincluding soap wrappers and purported purchase documents—was unreliable and failed to establish that the company authorized the use of her image after the contract ended.
The court, reportedly denied the
₹1 crore compensation claim and upheld the earlier dismissal of her suit, effectively terminating the case.
