Veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani recently broke his silence on his long-standing association with Ramesh Taurani and David Dhawan. He expressed deep disappointment, stating that “some actions over the years felt like a betrayal of trust” and emphasizing that his “silence was mistaken for acceptance”.
Bhagnani stated that after maintaining years of close professional association, certain developments and broken trust finally compelled him to share his side of the story. The Coolie No. 1 Gesture: He recalled personally gifting cars to David Dhawan and Govinda as tokens of appreciation following the film’s blockbuster success. Because Tips (Taurani) was a 50% partner and declined to participate in the gesture, Bhagnani decided to proceed independently, as he fundamentally believes that “success should be shared with the people who create it.
Stressing his ethical responsibility, Bhagnani pledged that if any future royalties or revenue are generated from the music he produced, he would want a share of it to reach the original actors, directors, and writers who built those cinematic milestones.
Bhagnani clarified that this particular reflection comes from a place of gratitude, ethics, and industry responsibility rather than an active legal ownership dispute.
