Nikhil slams FWICE over Ranveer Singh de facto ban

In response to the FWICE’s non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, producer Nikhil Dwivedi has raised concerns about the federation intervening in contractual conflicts.

FWICE issued a “non-cooperation directive” (a de facto ban) against Ranveer Singh following a complaint from Excel Entertainment. The studio alleged it incurred ₹45 crore in pre-production losses after Singh exited the highly anticipated Don 3 project just days before international shoots were scheduled. In retaliation to the trade union’s directive, Ranveer Singh’s legal team issued a formal legal notice to FWICE, citing that the dispute is a private contractual matter and falls outside the union’s jurisdiction.
Dwivedi argued that industry bodies exist for mediation, but if talks break down, matters should be settled in civil courts. He stated that preventing an actor from working borders on an unfair trade practice.

Directors like Sanjay Gupta also condemned the directive. They argued that banning an A-list actor does not actually penalize the star, but rather deprives hundreds of daily-wage technicians and crew members of their livelihood.Legal Precedent: Legally, the FWICE is a trade union and not a regulatory body. However, experts highlight that previous rulings by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in 2017 declared such forced industry boycotts and restrictions as anti-competitive and illegal.
