When Ego clashed with stardom: The quiet feud on the sets of Manoj Kumar’s ‘Kranti’

On the grand sets of the 1981 epic
“Kranti” director-actor Manoj Kumar’s meticulous nature and Hema Malini’s divided commitments sparked a legendary behind-the-scenes clash.
The tension boiled over when Hema Malini, juggling her commitment to Kamal Amrohi’s magnum opus “Razia Sultan”
requested to wrap her scenes early. The director reportedly refused to accommodate her schedule and intentionally kept her waiting all day without shooting a single frame. When Amrohi called to question this, Manoj Kumar justified it by pointing out that Hema’s day was officially booked for “Kranti”

However, Hollywood insiders also whispered another theory: Kumar may have subtly objected to filming Hema in a white sari for a key scene so soon after her marriage to Dharmendra.
