Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Smriti Irani strongly defended the central government’s handling of student protests regarding recent examination paper leaks, highlighting the administration’s immediate legislative and administrative interventions.
Irani dismissed allegations of a communication gap between the ruling government and the nation’s youth. She emphasized that the Centre took decisive steps to address student grievances, including the implementation of strict anti-paper leak laws, the formation of high-level reform committees, and direct outreach initiatives.
While validating the concerns of honest candidates, Irani reiterated that the administration remains fully committed to ensuring transparent, merit-based examinations. She stressed that while peaceful democratic dissent and constructive debate are fundamental rights in India, they must not cross the line into lawlessness.
Addressing the escalation of certain demonstrations, she stated that students possess the right to dissent but do not have the right to cause anarchy or resort to violence against law enforcement.
