Ace filmmaker David Dhawan, celebrated as the ultimate
“King of Comedy” in Bollywood, marked his 75th birthday on August 16, 2026. Industry bodies like the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit honored his remarkable journey from his early days to directing over 45 blockbuster hit films.

Before rising to fame as the ultimate “King of Comedy,”
David Dhawan started his journey in Bollywood as a film editor. Amidst the making of the classic 1982 film “Saath Saath” where he served as the chief film editor he lived in a modest paying guest (PG) accommodation.
His humble PG room was located in Tudor Apartments serving as his home base during his early industry struggles.
At the time, he was editing “SaathSaath”which featured Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit highlighted this specific era on Dhawan’s 75th birthday, noting how his transition from this simple room to a legendary career serves as a huge inspiration for outsiders in the industry.
