Bhuleshwar neighbourhood is in deep mourning following a tragic accident on Saturday night, August 22, 2026, when a 22-foot tall Ganesh idol collapsed in the midst of its arrival (Aagman) procession, killing two young devotees and injuring five others.
The disaster occurred near Jay Ambe Chowk on Balaram Merchant Road when the heavy Plaster of Paris (PoP) structure of the Bhuleshwaracha Raja idol lost balance and broke loose from its frame, crushing the crowd just 50 meters away from its destination pandal.
The community has been completely shattered by the sudden loss of two dedicated, lifelong volunteers leading the festivities:33-year old Sanket Nevshe, president/secretary of the Akhil Bhuleshwar Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal. He had recently taken over the leadership mantle from his father, continuing a multi-decadal family devotion to the neighborhood’s celebrations. And 30 years old Brijesh Hemant who was an active and passionate community volunteer.
In a cruel twist of fate, Brijesh
who had lost his own father when he was just three years old
leaves behind a wife and a 1.5-year-old son.
