Sharmila Tagore stages comeback with Manoj Bajpayee in ‘Gulmohar’ after 12 years
Gulmohar is a film inspired by filmmaker Mira Nair’s House featuring Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee.
The film centers around a family where situations get triggered when the family matriarch, essayed by Sharmila Tagore, decides to sell her house – a beautiful bungalow named Gulmohar, to a builder.
The love of a family is truly unparalleled and incomparable and a bond that embraces us with open arms and holds us strong through life’s ups and downs.
The much-awaited Rahul Chittella directorial Gulmohar
featuring the Padma Bhushan and National award-winning thespian Sharmila Tagore and the National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee is packed with emotional ties, familial love, and all the elements that keep the family together.
The film also features National Award winner Amol Palekar, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Kaveri Seth, and Utsavi Jha, amongst others. The film is slated to stream on Disney+ on 3rd March 2023.
As per director Rahul Chittella, Gulmohar is named after seeing Mira Nair’s New Delhi house being sold to a builder. Rahul was closely associated with Mira Nair as her creative and producing partner. She lived in Delhi and used to have her home in Vasant Vihar, which also became his home whenevever he makes a frequent visit to the house.
Apparently, it was very emotional for Mira and himself when she had to sell the house to a builder since it was going for redevelopment for a high-rise building to replace the two-storeyed house.
Rahul further added, he was in Delhi for some meetings in early 2019 and visited the house as it was getting packed up, and as he saw all his favorite paintings and photographs getting removed from the walls by the movers and packers. That struck an idea of having Arpita and his story of familial ties be placed against the backdrop of a home being sold and getting packed up over the next four days.
Interestingly, Sharmila Tagore makes a comeback with the film after 12 years with Manoj Bajpayee.
Meanwhile, according to Mira Nair on the Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Gulmohar, she loved the specificity with which it was written adding the first time she saw Gulmohar in rough cut, what stayed with her was the rare thing – it evoked a feeling. It has a mood. It has a powerful sense of atmosphere and a feeling of people trying to find what makes life work.
