Actor Manish Wadhwa opens up on his TV show “Chanakya” and films Pathaan and Gadar 2
Actor Manish Wadhwa opens up on his T.V. show “Chanakya” Pathaan and Gadar 2. He elaborated that in the Shah Rukh Khan Deepika Padukone John Abraham starrer “Pathaan”, the conflict and madness wouldn’t have been possible sans Manish Wadhwa who played the menacing Pakistani General Qadir, who hires Jim (John Abraham) to strike against India.
The actioner was a blockbuster and now Manish Wadhwa in Gadar 2, again plays a Pakistani General. The advance booking of the film opened recently, 12 days before release, and yet, the response was overwhelming.
His TV show ‘Chanakya’ won him achieve recognition. Pathaan ne chaar chand laga diye aur Gadar 2 ab aake Gadar macha dega”
In his recent media interaction the veteran actor opened up on his role in Gadar 2, his memories of working in Pathaan and a lot more.
The trailer of Gadar 2 has got a very positive response and ve feels much excited. He is unable to express it in words. He had watched Gadar – Ek Prem Katha when it had released and he couldn’t imagine that he would be a part of its sequel! He got the opportunity, and grabbed it. For him it’s also a big responsibility as well.
The character of Hamid Iqbal in Gadar 2 seems quite loud and it challenging to play such a character. He is from a theatre background and has done some roles in the past which were also loud. So, it’s fine. It’s part of the job. It’s all about how he wants to act and what his director wants.
The film has 3 action directors Ravi Varma, Tinnu Verma and Sham Kaushal and he found it quite a good experience. Ravi has his own inimitable style, and the same goes toTinnu. Sham anyway was quite cool! They all knew their work and was actors we followed them.
In Gadar 2 Sunny Deol plays an angry character but in real life, he’s very gentle but Manish feels he is very shy. He totally gets into his role. When he comes to the set, he is usually quiet. He constantly wants to understand how to go about doing it. He guided him and at the same time, he would also ask him ‘Iss scene ko aise karein ya waise karein?’. That works as filmmaking is team-work at the end of the day.
The iconic hand pump shot in Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001) was shot at La Martinière College, Lucknow. From the trailer, it seems that the sequel also has been shot at the same place. He said It was maddening to shoot there. 10,000 people gathered to see the shoot. Anyway, we needed people for the picturization. It made for a fun experience.
About offer of role in Pathaan, he was excited as it was a very big film and he realized that it was a small yet important role. It ticked all the boxes, was a big film featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. Moreover, it was backed by Yash Raj Films and that too directed by Siddharth Anand. What’s more, the makers worked well on his character. There was no reason for me to turn down the project.
Manish shares a passionate bond with Sidharth Anand and he too likes him. He had told him ‘Aapke saath bade aasaani ke saath kaam ho jaata hai’ and Manish replied, ‘Sir, aap kaam karwate ho. Main kuch nahin karta’! (laughs)
Manish found it incredible to have worked with How Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.
With John, he shot continuously for 4-5 days and with Shah Rukh Khan, his interaction was limited. He was very humble and would greet everyone lovingly on the sets.
He admits that though he has done several television shows, which have been consumed by millions of viewers, but Pathaan was a different ballgame altogether. It brought a new leaf in his life change after the release of the film.
Nevertheless his TV show Chanakya helped him achieve recognition.
Manish hit the head for his worthy comment on the late Amrish Puri, the antagonist in the first part, that ‘Sau actors bhi unko chhoo nahi sakte’…
and his performance is close to his performance, and would be on cloud nine!
