Iconic route turns to problematic Journey

Undoubtedly, the iconic Mumbai Pune Expressway was once considered as a symbol of modern infrastructure connecting two major cities in India. It was once a beacon to regional developments but as of now stands as a testament to neglect and mismanagement

With increasing public outcry and social media bringing these issues to the forefront, it’s imperative for the authorities to take notice and address the myriad problems that tarnish the reputation of this once iconic expressway. The need for immediate action to restore its status as a safe, efficient, and enjoyable route is more urgent than ever.

Ironically, it’s also entrenched in controversy owing to various issues degrading the driving experience it was designed to offer.

Originally built to provide a fast, safe, and enjoyable route amidst Mumbai and Pune, the expressway, after 23 years, seems to have drifted far from its initial promise.

Sadly, the route is plagued with many problems steering it into a source of frustration for commuters.

Heavy Vehicles occupy all the lanes thus ignoring the Lane discipline. This results in traffic to moving at snail’s pace, serpentine queues, significantly reducing the expressway’s efficiency.

The presence of two-wheelers, autorickshaws, and construction equipment, supposedly restricted, is now a common sight. This not only disrupts traffic flow but also raises safety concerns.

Toll booths, primarily focused on revenue collection, seem to ignore the growing queues. Despite the long waiting times, there has been little effort to upgrade infrastructure for
faster toll processing.

Constant Road Works, frequent lane closures due to ongoing maintenance work add to the commuters’ woes, causing further delays and inconvenience.

The deteriorating conditions of the Mumbai Pune Expressway have not gone unnoticed by its users. Many have taken to social media to express their grievances.
