Prakash Mehra produced and directed Zanjeer was released in 1973. The movie featured Amitabh Bachchan as a cop with Pran in an unique avatar as a Pathan.
Infact, it was Pran who had put in a word to Prakash Mehra about Amitabh. The film turned out to be a blockbuster success and Amitabh got the ‘Angry Young Man’ title. He never looked back after the success of this film and went on to star in Prakash Mehra’s other films Laawaris Muqaddar Ka Sikandar Khoon Pasina Namak Halaal Sharaabi and Jaadugar. It was after the release of Zanjeer he married Jaya Bhaduri and moved to a bungalow from a flat. Similarly Prakash Mehra too moved to a bungalow.
