Mumbai rain to subside dry-hotter days over the week
Notwithstanding withdrawl of the southwest monsoon on Oct 15, unseasonal showers and thunderstorms have continued over the week in Mumbai.
IMD has announced that intense of rainfall will be less starting Tuesday, amidst no alerts issued in Mumbai.
Following days of experiencing unseasonal rain and a yellow alert, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Mumbai can expect dry weather this week. Rainfall is expected to lessen and cease after Wednesday, leading to a rise in temperatures.
However, IMD scientists have indicated that light showers and thunderstorms may continue over pockets of the district in the next 2-3 days but no yellow alerts have been issued starting Tuesday.
Data showed that despite the yellow alert in the city, Santacruz and Colaba weather stations logged zero mm rain between Sunday and Monday mornings. Despite withdrawal of the southwest monsoon on October 15, unseasonal showers and thunderstorms continued unabated over the past week, with IMD sounding a yellow alert in the city. Overall, the Colaba station recorded 131 mm rain in October alone.
IMD director, Sunil Kamble, IMD director, informs the media that currently, there is a low-pressure area system over Bay of Bengal leading to thunderstorms. For the next 2–3 days, while the intensity will recede, thunderstorms may continue in the city during evenings. This also owing to the local convective activity.”
Meanwhile, as rainfall recedes, temperatures are expected to soar in upcoming days with the maximum temperatures likely to surpass 36 degrees Celsius from Thursday, as per IMD forecasts.
