Reacting to MNS Chief Raj Thackeray’s statement that his party will not back down on “slapping” people residing in the state if they refuse to speak Marathi, CM Devendra on Wednesday said that Law will take its course,

Speaking to press members in Mumbai, Fadnavis said, it is not wrong to demand Marathi in Maharashtra, he also wants use of Marathi as much as possible. Every state has its language and it must be respected. If someone takes law in his hand, then the law will take its course.

He was adddressing the party’s annual Gudhi Padwa rally at Shivaji Park in Central Mumbai on Sunday. On Tuesday, three MNS workers were booked for allegedly slapping a watchman in Powai for not speaking in Marathi. Similar incident happened at a bank in Mumbai, where an official was threatened for not speaking in Marathi.

Terming it a political stunt eyeing elections, Congress leader Naseem Khan said, “We have seen in 2009 that similar tactics were used by the MNS ahead of Assembly elections. Now the BMC polls are coming and similar rhetoric is repeated.” Khan said that such violence over use of language must be condemned.
